Controversy at Texas Community College About Asbestos Leads to Shot Fired

Secret tape recordings, accusations flying, a shooting . . . and asbestos?!

Only in Texas. At Kilgore College, drama has erupted over allegations that improper handling of asbestos allowed the cancer-causing material into the campus air. Leaders at the community college have been arguing about the proper method for asbestos abatement.

The latest development in the feud occurred against a critic of the Kilgore administration. Reverend Brian Nutt found a bullet in his door days after a newspaper article containing secret recordings of Kilgore's director of special projects and the administration's liaison to the board of directors, Dan Beach. Beach was recorded as saying that the college would have to "print a list of every student that's been here for the last 30 years" in order to figure out who might have been exposed to asbestos.
