Dr. Paolo Boffetta Withdraws his Candidacy as Director of France's Leading Epidemiology Center

The National Institute for Health and Medical Research as well as the University of Paris-Sud are responsible for requiring Boffetta to withdraw his candidacy.

Right On Canada reports that Dr. Boffetta's appointment was challenged by several scientists and health defenders, as well as the National Association of Asbestos Victims, who were concerned regarding the doctor's close relationship with polluting industries. There was also concern about his improper scientific and ethical conduct.

Amongst other improper conduct, an earlier article pointed out that Dr. Boffetta was paid by a company (facing criminal charges for the deaths of its workers from asbestos-related disease) to co-author an article which denied that continued exposure to asbestos causes additional harm to workers.
