Kalamazoo Woman Receives Probation for Asbestos Violations

In Kalamazoo, Michigan, LuAnne LaBrie will receive three years of probation for her failure to notify authorities that asbestos materials would be removed at a former power plant.

This removal led to the largest release of asbestos in Michigan's history. Investigators said that LaBrie controlled and supervised the facility and visited the site and communicated with her two co-defendants regularly about the salvage operation. LaBrie's two co-defendants, who supervised the salvaging of scrap metal at the plant, pleaded guilty in February to failing to adequately wet asbestos material during the operation.
