Susan Vento Aims to Get Facts Straight on the FACT Act

In October 2000, Susan Vento's husband died-just eight months after being diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma. But Susan is not done fighting for him.

Susan serves as spokesperson for the national advocacy group, Asbestos Cancer Victims Rights Campaign. More recently, she has preoccupied herself with fighting against House Resolution 982, the "Furthering Asbestos Claims Transparency (FACT) Act." Although the FACT Act requires more transparency when filing claims with asbestos-company trusts, that transparency only applies for victims and families affected by asbestos-not the companies responsible for exposing individuals to asbestos. As a result, the FACT Act makes it more difficult and time consuming for mesothelioma patients to be compensated by the negligent companies.

Raising public awareness is one of Susan's goals in the fight against this legislation.
